The Playstation One, or the PSX for short, is one of the best game consoles in the new Millennium. It was released on 1997 and it had a massive lineup of games.
During the course of 5 years, a lot of memorable games were released for the game console. Today, I am going to talk about one of the most iconic RPG games that I ever played on the PSX.
Star Ocean the Second Story is one of the best RPG games for the PSX game console. The story of the game follows the events of the original Star Ocean game.
The story starts with Claude Kenny, one of the main protagonists in the game. He was assigned by his father, Ronyx J. Kenny, to his very first official mission as an ensign of the Earth Federation. Claude was tasked by his father to survey the area around the planet Milocinia. It was reported that a mysterious energy field was created in that location.
Upon Claude’s arrival on the planet, he discovered a mysterious device. His father was strongly against touching or even examining it, but Claude was wild and free, so he touched the device.
The device then teleported Claude to the planet called “Expel”. There, Claude met another one of the main protagonists, Rena. Upon seeing Claude, Rena mistakes him as the “Hero of the Light”; a hero that was in Expel’s fables.
After meeting Claude, Rena took him in and they both went back to Rena’s village of Arlia.
In the village, Claude was informed that a mysterious meteorite crashed on the planet Expel one day. Shortly thereafter, hordes of monsters were reported wreaking havoc to the planet.
The chief of Arlia explained that the meteorite was called the “Sorcery Globe”. After Claude explains to them that he is not the legendary Hero of Light, he still went on to investigate the Sorcery Globe in the hopes of finding his way back home.
During the course of the game, both Rena and Claude will come across a variety of characters and it is up to the player which ones they will recruit for the entire journey.
There is a total of 10 playable characters you can recruit but you can only recruit a maximum of 10 because of the game’s limit. By choosing some of them, all of the remaining characters will no longer be a part of the storyline.
Star Ocean the Second Story is a real-time action game where you gain full control of your characters during battles.
Unlike turn-based RPG games, you can run and attack enemies during battle which makes this game very exciting.
You can choose a total of 4 characters that you can put on the battlefield (well, you can choose either Claude and Rena and three other playable characters).
Star Ocean the Second Story is an RPG game that I would definitely recommend for PSX game console players. It is highly entertaining and the game should keep you glued to your seats for hours on end.
